Q) Does the Goldtouch Keyboard require special drivers?
A) The Goldtouch Keyboard does not require any special drivers. Top
Q) Are the keyboard keys programmable?
A) Only the modifier keys are programmable via the Keyboard Assistant located under the System Preferences, Keyboard. Top
Q) Text Highlighting and keystroke combinations.
A) Highlighting text with the Goldtouch for MAC is similar to the standard Apple Keyboard, because Apple has allowed each program developer to design keystrokes independent of the MAC O/S.
For further instructions regarding specific keystroke combinations, please contact the application manufacture. Top
Q) Where is the Fn Modifier Key on the keyboard?
A) The Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboards for MAC utilize the "Help" key to operate as the Fn modifier key. This key is located on the bottom-left of the keyboard, and provides the full functionality as the Fn modifier key found on newer MAC keyboard models. This also applies to the Goldtouch Go! Travel Keyboard. Top
Q) Is their a Dvorak version of the keyboard?
A) No, all Goldtouch keyboards are QWERTY for Latin script. Top
Q) Why is the keyboard designed the way it is?
A) This is an exceptional product designed to be adjusted to suit your individual body requirements, rather than forcing your body to conform to the keyboard. It provides for personal adaptation of the two alphanumeric sections to help you attain relaxation of the muscles and tendons of the hands, wrists, arms and shoulders. In so doing some undesirable awkward postures used in typing can be alleviated.
The Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard allows for you to arrange your workspace to improve comfort and enhance productivity and efficiency. It has a small footprint and embedded numeric keypad so you don't need to reach as far to access your mouse. Top
Q) Where is the Serial Number on the Goldtouch Keyboard?
A) The serial number is located on the underside of the keyboard. There may be more than one label, so identify the serial number to the right of "S/N" or as a 10-digit code beneath a bar code. For example "8HDY364724". Top
Q) How do I know what position to adjust the keyboard to?
A) Everyone is different and will require different typing positions to suit them and their workstation.
Splay & Ulnar Deviation Adjustment:
There is usually a discrepancy between your shoulder width and keyboard width when you place your fingers on the home row of keys. You compensate by angling your wrists outward (ulnar deviation). Rather than have this happen, the Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard splits in the horizontal plane (0° to 30°) relieving this awkward posture. The aim is to allow your wrists to be straight which in turn will increase your comfort level.
Lateral Inclination & Pronation Adjustment:
Placing your hands flat on the keys of a keyboard can require considerable muscular effort. This effort can cause fatigue and discomfort. The keyboard is split into segments so that it can be raised in the center to more closely match the natural alignment of the forearm and wrist. Forcing your hands down flat to the keyboard is a hand movement known as pronation. It is the rotation of the right hand in a counter-clockwise direction and clockwise for the left.
Experiment, give yourself time to familiarize yourself with this new posture and fine tune the adjustment until you feel a sense of relaxation in the wrists, forearms, shoulders and neck.
IMPORTANT: After making this adjustment check that your elbows are at 90° and your forearms are horizontal. If they are not, alter your seat or desk height.
Key Ovation provides a separate 18-key numeric keypad for those who need them (click here for Keypad product information). Top
Q) Can I split the Goldtouch Keyboard into two pieces?
A) The Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard is not designed to be split into separate peices. You should adjust the keyboard vertically and horizontally to fit your particular body type. Separating the Goldtouch keyboard into two pieces voids the product warranty. Top
Q) What sort of key switches does the keyboard use?
A) The Goldtouch Keyboard uses rubber dome springs rather than buckling springs as used in the old Lexmark Select-Ease/IBM Options Keyboard. These have a lighter activation force curve and a soft end-stop. It is also much quieter. The force-displacement curve complies with ISO standards and provides crisp tactile feedback. Top
Q) Does the keyboard bounce when adjusted?
A) No, if the keyboard is properly adjusted, no bounce should be experienced when typing. It is necessary to set the keyboard up to be stable on its four feet to stop any wobble. Pull the locking bar mechanism out. With the right hand lifting the back of the keyboard from underneath, place the left thumb on the Goldtouch logo and pull the handle back into the locked position. Each half needs to be pretty even for it not to rock or bounce. If the keyboard still wobbles, pull the locking bar out again and adjust it slightly until you feel the two halves are stable. Top
Q) What if I think I have a defective key?
A) If the key is not producing any characters or the wrong character, the Keyboard may be defective. Please test the keyboard on another computer system and if it is still experiencing the same results, Please email Support for further assistance.
Q) Pressing a key on the keyboard does not wake the computer from Sleep Mode.
A) Please visit Apple support for instructions on resetting the System Management Controller. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=en_US
Q) The Home and End buttons do not function as expected in Firefox (or other internet browser).
A) The Home and End buttons typically take you to the beginning of the line, or the end of the line respectively.
Firefox browser does not support this in the URL field. Home and End will do nothing in the URL field of Firefox.
In Safari, the Home and End button will navigate to the beginning of the webpage and to the end of the webpage even while the cursor is located in the URL field.
These are issues with the browser on the MAC OS platform that unfortunately must be resolved by the software vendor. Top
Q) What if the keyboard is not recognized.
A) If your system detects an unknown keyboard, you will be prompted to press the key to the Right of the Shift key (this is the "Z" key on the Goldtouch Keyboard). Next, you must press the key to the Left of the Shift key (this is the "/" key on the Goldtouch Keyboard. Finally, you may be prompted to select the keyboard type. For USA, select ANSI; for foreign layouts, select ISO. Top
Q) Which operating systems are supported?
