Ergonomic Government Solutions

Greater productivity often starts with great equipment. In the government sector, efficiency matters. This means getting the most out of each individual and out of every piece of technology possible.

Big Problems to Solve

As an employee for the government, you have unique challenges that don’t exist in the private sector, and you’re tasked with squeezing the most out of every dollar. Your current staff might be working on outdated technology that makes their job harder. That puts government workers at a greater risk for developing Repetitive Strain Injuries like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The employees on staff deserve to have the tools they need to excel. Ergonomic government solutions prevent health problems, improve productivity and make your agency a place that employees feel comfortable. Goldtouch empowers workers with solutions designed to fit each individual.

The simple truth is that employees that are happy and comfortable tend to be more productive. In fact, more than 90% of business leaders say that promoting wellness in the workforce can affect employee productivity and performance in a positive way.

Let’s explore why an ergonomic work setup is essential for each government worker.

Pain Prevents Productivity

Governments today are empowering their citizens like never before with cutting edge technology and responsive programs. But the workers who are creating this innovation for the citizenry they serve are often working on traditional flat keyboards. Doing so forces the typist’s hands to splay outward, straining the muscles and inflaming the wrist’s carpal tunnel. The pain of such injuries as well as time off needed for costly corrective surgeries significantly impacts the worker’s organization in the following ways.

High Absenteeism Rates

Workers with RSIs are absent an average of 23 days each year and account for a vast number of the some 460,000 carpal tunnel release surgeries performed annually (National Center for Health Statistics). Workers who are absent frequently fall out of their groove and may feel isolated. Individual absenteeism can also put undue burdens on the rest of the team, as other team members struggle to take on their workload.

Wrist Pain

Regular keyboard use causes wrists and hands to ache. It forces workers to hold wrists at an unnatural angle, straining muscles and joints. Employees work more slowly because they’re in pain. They need more frequent breaks, and at the end of the day they feel wiped out. They attribute that feeling to their job, not just their keyboard. In contrast, an ergonomic keyboard allows them to work pain-free.

Mouse Elbow

Stretching and twisting to use a mouse damages muscles and tendons in the arm. Tiny tears become chronic inflammation. Employees may need extended time off to heal. Even when they do, if they return to the same workstation, the problem will reoccur. An ergonomic mouse can prevent this type of injury.

Repetitive Strain Injury

Performing the same movements over and over causes repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel and tendonitis. They’re also sometimes called musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). OSHA says “Workers in many different industries and occupations can be exposed to risk factors at work, such as … working in awkward body postures and performing the same or similar tasks repetitively. Work-related MSDs can be prevented. Ergonomics — fitting a job to a person — helps lessen muscle fatigue, increases productivity and reduces the number and severity of work-related MSDs”

Back Pain

Repetition isn’t the only danger, awkward posture can also cause pain and injury. One-size-fits-all office chairs and desks, incorrectly placed monitors and long days sitting in one position all put your employees at risk for developing back pain. On bad days, employees call in sick. On good days they still can’t give 100 percent. Ergonomic government solutions can make all the difference.

Why Efficient, Hard Working Hardware Matters

In the government sector, efficiency matters. This means getting the most out of each individual and out of every piece of technology possible. Still, while it may seem like hanging on to old budget equipment is a cost-saving approach, it’s counterproductive if that equipment causes harm or discomfort to workers. Investing in new ergonomic equipment means investing upfront in workers themselves, and stretching precious budgets by reducing more costly expenses on the backend.

Ergonomic Workstations Attract Top Talent

Your government agency’s reputation either attracts highly qualified job seekers or makes them decide not to apply. Potential applicants evaluate your agency in terms of culture, benefits, pay and whether or not you help them be their personal best.

Ergonomic government solutions are more than just office equipment. They create a culture focused on health, well-being and productivity. Staff doesn’t want to spend their paid government holidays recovering from injuries received at work. That’s why having the right equipment is beneficial in so many ways. In addition to ergonomic keyboards and ergonomic mice, we offer the following:

Laptop and tablet stands: Place screens at the correct height to avoid neck and eye strain.

Keypads: Speed through your data entry process with an external numeric keypad.

Monitor arms: Allow each worker to adjust monitor height and distance.

Split Keyboards Help Avoid Injury Claims

Goldtouch ergonomic keyboards cause productivity to skyrocket because of the following:

Patented Customizable fit: Our split keyboards separate in the middle and adjust horizontally from 0-30 degrees with a patented ball and lever system. That means each employee can have a keyboard that conforms to their body type. Ergonomic keyboards are meant to be adjustable. If It Isn’t Adjustable, It Isn’t Ergonomic.™

Vertical Tenting: Workers can also find the perfect vertical angle to prevent wrist strain by tenting the keyboard from 0-30 degrees.

Easy touch keys: Keys on Goldtouch ergonomic keyboards are optimally placed and can be easily depressed, so typists don’t over-reach or over-press keys.

An Ergonomic Mouse that Energizes

Prevent injury with our wide range of mice for all hand sizes. Offer full support for wrists and hands, easy reach buttons, even vertical mice that allow for use in a handshake position.

Employees are energized because they work pain-free. They’re also revitalized by your investment in their well-being.

I’ve been using Goldtouch keyboard for over 10 years and had to first get used to the split keyboard but once I did, my hand and wrist did not feel the strain they normally do to cause tendonitis in both arms. I ordered a new Goldtouch just last month (Dec.09) because my old one that I’ve been using for the past 5 years was having the space bar stick. The new GTN-0077 that I got is so much better! The keys are much softer to press than the original ones I had. It doesn’t make as much noise and I don’t have to press hard to type. This eliminates muscle strain in both hands. It’s almost like gliding on air. I absolutely love it!

The concept is a lot sturdier than expected. I had some doubts about the hinge, but after a couple of months everything is still tight. I only adjusted a couple of times during the first weeks, but once I found the right fit it’s comfortable and speedy.

You guys have great products. I started to notice that after using my old keyboard for an extended period of time, my arthritis from an old football injury would flare up in my arms and shoulders. I decided to try the Goldtouch keyboard and have been thrilled with the results. The pain has disappeared and I don’t have to worry about the consequence of putting in some extra hours on the computer.
